Last week, your local Conservative Councillors for Emerson Park, became aware that the Home Office was using Palms Hotel on the A127 as accommodation for asylum seekers. The Councillors believed that this was not suitable, given its location and the pressure it would put on our all our local services such as GPs, Schools and Queens Hospital. They were worried that it might become permanent.
Your councillors and local Conservative Action Team contacted your local MP, Julia Lopez, who took the matter straight to the Home Office and Government Ministers. On Wednesday morning, Julia received confirmation that the contract between the Home Office contractor, and the Hotel had been terminated and that all of the asylum seekers would be gone in a few days.
This is a great example of our local Conservative Councillors working with Julia Lopez MP to ensure that our voices are heard. We will be following up to make sure that things go to plan.
