On the 18th April 2019, Cabinet members of Havering Council approved a new special education needs school for the Borough. 

The plans are to build a new £8.5 million free school with special educational needs (SEN) and will be on the site of the St Edward's Church of England Academy in London Road, Romford.

The school will cater for 60 children aged three to sixteen years. It will be a purpose-built school run by the Unity Schools Partnership Trust (formerly Samuel Ward Academy Trust). 

The new school will open in 2022 and received funding from the Government's Education Skills and Funding Agency.
