Roger Evans, our popular and effective representative on the London Assembly will be stepping down at next May’s election after a long political career. We have thus had to select a new candidate to fight the Conservative corner for the Havering and Redbridge London constituency. At a well-attended meeting of Party members from the relevant constituencies on 7th September Keith Prince was selected from a short list of three very strong contenders.
Keith is well-known locally. He lived in Havering for many years and he served three terms on the Havering Council. He also lived in Redbridge and served several terms on the Redbridge Council too. He was leader of the Redbridge Council for the past 5 years and still serves that council. He is thus very familiar with the issues facing Havering and Redbridge so should be well-placed to represent us.
He has pledged the following:
to build on his current role with the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime to bring crime down further in our boroughs;
to work with the Mayor and the councils to deal with London’s housing crisis and, in particular, to ensure that our boroughs are not forced to provide more than our fair share of the new housing London needs;
to protect the services at Queens and King George’s Hospitals;
to lobby for better rail and road funding for us and in particular to try to get Gallows Corner properly sorted out once and for all;
to help the councils get more investment for local schools;
to help the councils fight for a fairer allocation of central funding; and
to work with businesses and politicians to help local people who need it into work.
