It has been a productive summer recess, and I have been liaising with Havering Council, Government and local education leaders to see how we may boost the work already underway to improve secondary school standards in Hornchurch & Upminster and raise aspirations of children of all ages. I am helping the Thames Chase Community Forest with their work to provide great open spaces. I am also liaising with the NHS regarding recent consent granted for a new health centre and homes on the old St George's Hospital site, as well as the Care Quality Commission about standards in local care homes. Meanwhile, we are pushing the issue of police response times, which have not been up to scratch since the Mayor of London adopted a new pilot scheme to merge borough policing teams.
This week I met the Head of Transport for London's bus service with Keith Prince AM to ask that he considers adding Queen's to the 248 but route to reduce pressure on the hospital's car park and help the elderly residents travel there from Cranham, Upminster and Hornchurch without needing to change buses.
In Parliament, I have just been elected to the International Trade Committee, and hope to use this role to build a positive future for the UK outside the European Union by building our global trading relationships and expanding our presence in new and existing markets.
