Havering Council is consulting on a proposal for a 20mph zone and safety improvements in St Mary's Lane, Upminster between Bridge Avenue and Gridiron Place and also on safety improvements in thevicinity of Glanville Drive, Upminster Road, Hornhurch.

The consultation can be accessed on the Havering Council website and the deadline for responses is Friday 4 December. 

This is an accident reduction programme that was one of the schemes recently approved by TfL. Following the TfL's funding approval, a feasibility study has been carried out to identify safety improvements that could be made in this stretch of road.

The study found that up to 1500 vehicles per hour use St Mary's Lane and speeds up to 47mph were recorded. There have been a total of twenty one personal injury accidents at the above locations over a five year period. Of this total, two were serious; six involved pedestrians and three occurred during the hours of darkness.
