It has become a tradition that we have a street event in Upminster town centre on St George's day every year. We always try to have something of interest to young children to hand out to maintain awareness of the day. Usually we hand out balloons and flags but this year, because the day fell so close to the election we could not spend money on handouts of this kind. Instead, as well as handing out election material and speaking about the upcoming elections we decided to have a colouring-in competition for the young ones. The winner of this competition will be declared after the election.
One of the pictures shows Dame Angela and one of the candidates for election to the European Parliament, Anesley Abercorn, talking to a young supporter and the other shows Dame Angela with Pamela Freer, candidate for Cranham and one of the deputy chairmen of the Association in Upminster during the afternoon.
