Mayor Khan revealed his plan to sell Hornchurch Police Station in 2018. We ran a year-long campaign to keep this critical policing base, and with the support of hundreds of residents, secured an option for Havering Council to purchase it from the Metropolitan Police and lease some of the site back to them, guaranteeing a police presence in the area.
Since then, progress on implementing this deal has stalled. In the meantime, an extra 350 police officers have been added to our Borough Command Unit under the government’s police recruitment drive.
Your local Conservative MP, Julia Lopez, has just written to the Mayor to ask if he still wanted to sell the police station given all the extra officers who need a base and Hornchurch’s importance to neighbourhood policing operations. He confirmed that he planned to sell it, but we believe he must think again.
Julia has now written to the new Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley QPM, to ask that he overturns the decision to sell Hornchurch Police Station. We think a clear show of public support will help her make that case and have started a petition so residents can make their voice heard.
Keith Prince AM, the Conservative London Assembly Member for Havering & Redbridge says, "We have seen a number of burglaries in Hornchurch & Emerson Park recently, and I am backing Julia's campaign".
