Havering Council, in partnership with TfL, has unveiled updated plans to transform Harold Wood station – as part of a series of major improvements on the Eastern section of the Crossrail route, between Stratford and Shenfield.

Central to the Council’s proposals is the design and creation of a new plaza at the station’s secondary entrance, within the car park, and improvements to the pedestrian crossing on Station Road.
The works will provide step free access onto the platform and a pedestrianized route to and from the station. A main ramp servicing the plaza and Station Road will be incorporated into the public space to provide easy and seamless level transition for all commuters. The ramp and nearby flight of stairs will provide access onto Station Road in close proximity to the existing zebra crossing – which will be widened to 5m to provide an improved and more accessible crossing facility.
Highway improvements are currently being explored to improve pedestrian access to the station across St Clements Avenue.
The area will benefit from improved lighting, seating, bins and cycle stand provision and upgraded paving materials to create a pleasant experience for commuters and visitors arriving at the station.
Local residents are invited to take part in atwo week public consultation between 15 and 26 February. Plans will be available at the Harold Wood Library and Council representatives will attend on 18 February, and will be available to answer any questions.
