Following our long campaign over the last year, your Conservative Action Team in Upminster have listened to you in our surveys. As a result, we have listened to your views and made them central to our goals.
These include:
- Providing value for money
- Saving Hornchurch Police Station
- Fixing potholes quickly and properly
- Supporting our high street
- Protecting our green and open spaces
- Improving transparency in the council
But don't just judge us by our words, judge us by our actions.
We worked together to increase the government grant to the council by 9.5%. This is part of the 26% increase to the Core Spending Power to the council. We are proud to have joined the successful Conservative campaign to keep weekly refuse collections. And, Adam Baker, a Conservative volunteer in Upminster led our campaign to save Upminster Park Toilets. Added to the campaigns to stop Gaynes School Street Scheme, Conservatives have proved they want value for money.
On saving Hornchurch Police Station, only the Conservatives have campaigned to save Hornchurch Police Station. Julia Lopez MP has met with the Met Commissioner to present our petition with over 1250 signatures, but the fight doesn't end there. As residents in Upminster, local Conservatives see the same crime. But the 350 extra police officers recruited under the government's manifesto promise need a permanent base to conduct more efficient and effective patrols in Upminster.
On potholes, your local Conservatives have reported dozens of potholes since March. This has resulted in many roads being resurfaced. But we still need to fix potholes down Aveley Road and Gerpins Lane, not to mention the horrendous speed bumps down Harwood Hall Lane. Local Conservatives fixed speedbumps down Park Drive through their pothole patrols.
Local Conservatives use the high street regularly. That is why we want to support the high street with low parking charges. Did you know that the Residents Association Political Party sided with Labour to increase parking charges by 40%? Instead they could have voted for the Conservatives fully funded plan to freeze parking charges. Also, Conservatives are leading the fight against ULEZ expansion which will damage our local businesses. We have started a petition against the expansion as well as worked together between Keith Prince, your London Assembly Member, Julia Lopez MP and your Conservative Action Team to protest, to petition and to work in parliament. At the same time, your Resident Association Political Party councillors in Upminster voted against a fully funded fight against ULEZ expansion by the Cosnervatives.
On protecting our green and open spaces we are determined to preserve the character of Upminster. That is why we started a petition against the Upminster Quarry, which would see 96 heavy vehicles use our country lanes less than 2 miles from Upminster Station to transport 150,000 tonnes of sand and gravel each year. Likewise, Julia Lopez MP has worked to increase community forests across the area.
On council transparency, your local Conservatives have launched several freedom of information requests. Adam Baker wrote to the Upminster councillors on parking, asking 7 simple questions to increase transparency and bring clarity to the mess of parking. Likewise, residents views should come first, that is why consultations should value the consent of the residents.
Your local Conservative action team, Adam Baker, Paul Connew and Edward Green value your views. As residents in Upminster, they experience the same things, and understand the community they are proud to be a part of. That is why your priorities are also our priorities. So we can provide value for money, save Hornchurch Police Station, fix potholes quickly and properly, support Upminster High Street, protect our green spaces and increase transparency in the council.
